New schools and 2,800 homes could be built near M5

A bid to build a new "garden community" with up to 2,800 homes near a motorway has been launched.

Under the proposals, new schools, shops, a pub, and parks would be built at the North Ashchurch Garden Community near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

A group of developers, called the North Ashchurch Consortium, has submitted an outline planning application to Tewkesbury Borough Council. It is not yet clear when a decision will be made.

The new estate forms part of a wider masterplan to build 10,000 homes across a series of garden communities near the town. These would all be connected by shared infrastructure, including schooling, cycle paths and improvements to rail services.

Robert James, from the North Ashchurch consortium, said: "We hope you will work with us to create a vibrant, healthy, and happy place for people to live and work in this beautiful area, on the edge of the Cotswolds."

According to the plans, two primary schools and a secondary schools are proposed, as well as a new pedestrian crossing over the railway line, two community centres and a pub.

The proposed site is north of Ashchurch, near to the M5.
