Police say human remains found in February have been confirmed as those of a man who disappeared more than two years ago.

47-year-old Stefan Watkins, from Warwick, was reported missing in May 2023 after he had not been seen for several weeks.

Officers searching for him discovered human remains in Charterhouse Fields, Coventry.

Warwickshire Police said testing had now concluded they belonged to Mr Watkins. His family had been informed, and his death was not being treated as suspicious, added the force.

Det Insp Gareth Unett thanked those who had helped in the search for Mr Watkins, who was known as Lee or LeeLee.

"We know his disappearance struck a real chord in the local area," he said.

"It's been a complex and lengthy investigation, and although this is not the outcome any of us would have wanted, hopefully his loved ones should now be able to start to come to terms with what has happened."
