Police officer and dad in court for driving offence

A police officer and her father have denied perverting the course of justice following an alleged driving offence.

Aisha Iqbal, 27, of Buxton Place, Wakefield, pleaded not guilty to conspiring to pervert the course of justice between 1 July 2021 and 15 December 2021.

Her father Zaffar Iqbal, 62, of Priory Avenue, Wembley, London, also pleaded not guilty to the same charge at Bradford Crown Court on Monday morning.

A trial date has been set for the pair for 2 December 2026.

A second police officer also appeared in front of Judge Ahmed Nahim in the same court session.

Abdul Iqbal, 27, of Buxton Place, Wakefield, pleaded guilty to three counts of perverting the course of justice. He will be sentenced in February.

The first charge involved Mr Iqbal being detained after asking a passenger to say they were driving his car as he was over the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The other two charges are drink driving and failing to provide information.

Judge Nadim said: "The combination of the offences you have admitted to will inevitably lead to a sentence of imprisonment."

Both officers served with West Yorkshire Police and have been suspended from duty. PC Abdul Iqbal was based in Kirklees and PC Aisha Iqbal worked in Wakefield.
