Pensioner and dog die in house fire

A pensioner and his dog have died in a fire that engulfed the ground floor of a detached house.

Four crews responded to the blaze on Berkeley Drive in Kingswinford, near Dudley, on Saturday.

The man, in his late eighties, was rescued by firefighters but died in hospital.

West Midlands Fire Service said the man’s wife was outside the house when firefighters arrived and was unharmed. It added the fire was started accidentally.
