A police investigation has been launched into historic sex offences at a former school in West Sussex.

The allegations relate to sexual abuse at Tavistock and Summerhill School in Lindfield between 1962 and 1970.

The school, which was also called Tavistock Hall in the 1960s, has since closed.

No arrests have been made.

Det Con Hannah Elmer said although the investigation was at a “very early phase”, the force was "aware of several people we would like to speak to as part of our enquiries".

“The incidents are reported to have taken place around 60 years ago and, as such, there is not considered to be any ongoing risk," she said.

“But a full and thorough investigation will be carried out to understand the full facts.”

Anyone with information that may help the investigation is urged to contact the force.
