More than 2.5 million people visit the Christmas market in Hyde Park each year, according to Royal Parks

Three people have been arrested after a man had a bottle of corrosive liquid thrown at him while visiting Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland, the Met Police said.

The man, 22, was taken to hospital after being splashed with the liquid, which is thought to have been an alkali.

Police were called to the Christmas market in the central London park at about 20:00 GMT on Sunday, following reports of a fight between two groups of people.

Two men, aged 21 and 18, remain in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, while a boy aged 16 has been released on bail until February.

The victim's injuries are not thought to be life-changing, the Met said.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland said its medical staff attended and that it assisted police with the arrests.

A spokesperson added: "The safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority and we do not tolerate any acts of violence.

"We have robust security measures in place, including bag searches, CCTV, onsite security services, specially trained staff that flag suspicious activity, and extensive perimeter protection.

"We will continue to support the authorities with their investigation."
