PC sacked for pursuing inappropriate relationship
A police officer has been sacked for using his position to pursue an "improper" relationship.
Former PC Mark McKirdy, who worked for Cumbria Constabulary, was found to have committed gross misconduct following a hearing on Tuesday, the force said.
Mr McKirdy also sent "highly inappropriate and disrespectful" messages regarding a member of the public, the misconduct panel heard.
Chief Constable Rob Carden said: "When one officer acts in such a way, it discredits all officers, which is why such actions are treated so seriously."
Mr McKirdy had already submitted his resignation and was due to leave next month, but the force held an accelerated misconduct hearing.
