Man arrested over 'threats' to council worker

A man has been arrested after Derby City Council reported "threats" were made to a member of staff over the phone.

The authority put restrictions on people visiting its headquarters and opened on an appointment-only basis following the "malicious communications" on Monday.

Derbyshire Police said a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sending by a public communication network an offensive, obscene or menacing message on Tuesday night.

The authority confirmed its Council House reception reopened at 11:00 GMT on Wednesday, with the need to book appointments lifted "with immediate effect".

A council statement said: "While some ground floor services, such as the Riverside Library, will be open as usual, the Derby City Jobcentre Plus will remain closed today."

The arrested man remains in custody, police said.
