A council had about £13.2m unspent for infrastructure projects at the start of the current financial year, it said.

West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) said having the "relatively large amount of money" is "not an unusual position" for an authority to be in.

But it said officers "acknowledge that more could be done to proactively identify new projects" that could use it.

The money, section 106 funding, is given to authorities by developers for providing community and social infrastructure.

WODC said of the £13.2m some has only been given to it or will arrive in instalments and can "often only be spent once the total amount has been received in its entirety".

The council added that some of the money has been informally earmarked for projects and will be used "once those schemes have been worked up in more detail".

Some of the money was only received "relatively recently", it added.

WODC's overview and scrutiny committee will hear about the money and how it is being spent on Wednesday.

The report will give councillors "greater clarity", the authority said.

In September, WODC said money from section 106 funding would be used to help pay for a £1m football pitch at West Witney Sports Ground.
