Manhunt after mystery liquid attack in restaurant
Six men are being hunted by police after two of them ran into a restaurant and threw liquid over the four others, raising fears that it was a corrosive substance.
Furniture was also thrown by the men inside the Cardiff Bay restaurant, before all six fled the scene.
South Wales Police believe it was a "targeted attack" at Las Iguanas on Wednesday night following an earlier argument between the six.
Emergency services were called to the Mermaid Quay area, which was cordoned off, and the restaurant was closed.
“Four men were sitting in the restaurant when two other men ran into the restaurant and threw a substance at them," said Det Insp Phil Marchant.
"Items of furniture were also picked up and thrown.
“Both the four male victims and the two male suspects then ran out of the restaurant.
He added that no injuries have been reported and "at this time the liquid is not believed to have been harmful".
He said it was understood that at about 18:15 the two groups "had previously had an altercation in another part of Mermaid Quay... and therefore believe this to be a targeted attack".
Police are trying to identify and find all six men.
They also want to speak to anyone who was in Las Iguanas, or near the site of the restaurant in Tacoma Square between 18:15 and 20:30 GMT, or has other information.
Las Iguanas remained closed on Thursday morning.
A spokesperson for Mermaid Quay said the emergency services were carrying out investigations.
“This incident has now ended, and is under active investigation. Due to this we are unable to comment any further.”
