Man charged in missing man murder inquiry

A man has been charged with assisting an offender (murder) and preventing the burial of a body as police search for a missing man in a case they are treating as a murder inquiry.

Cumali Turhan, 45, was last heard from when he was in The Globe, in Rainsford Road, Chelmsford, shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

Ciprian Ilie, 44, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court earlier and Essex Police is still appealing for information.

Det Ch Insp Louise Metcalfe from Essex Police said: "We’re continuing to build a picture of the circumstances leading up to Cumali being reported as missing to us, including whether others have been involved."

Cumali Turhan has not been seen since the early hours of Tuesday and police are "trying to piece together the circumstances in which he went missing"

Police added that they had information that Mr Turhan may have been in Barista on Duke Street after The Globe.
