Puppy covered in burns finds his forever home

A rescued puppy being found with a fractured leg and covered in weeping burns has found his forever home.

Milo, a "friendly but nervous" Staffie cross, was found in Norfolk and taken to a vet in Norwich on 12 January.

The six-month-old pooch was "extremely scared", underweight, limping, covered in infected sores and "in a huge amount of pain".

Following the RSCPA's intervention, Milo was nursed back to good health and has been rehomed with John and Ann Crane, from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

The retired couple had been looking for a companion for their 16-month-old labrador Molly, and fell in love with Milo after reading about his ordeal.

"When we saw Milo's story we felt we needed to get him and show him the love he'd missed out on for so long – his story tore me apart," said Mr Crane.

"He's settled in really well – he's an absolute nutcase. He's only a little boy but he's very strong and pulls like a tank – he must be feeling better.

"We walk a lot at the Sandringham Estate, which is lovely, and when we go out Molly and Milo are glued at the hip."

Milo was taken to the vet by someone who had been contacted by a relative's friend to say her dog was really sick and needed help.

She convinced the owner to let her take him straight to the vet, who said it was as if boiled water had been tipped over him.

"He was struggling to settle, his skin was twitching and when anyone tried to touch him he would cry out in pain," said RSPCA inspector Emily Astilberry.

Milo spent four months at RSPCA Block Fen Animal Centre, Cambridgeshire, before being adopted.

He is now enjoying life in his new home, chasing pigeons in the garden, digging holes, playing with squeaky toys and snoozing on the sofa in the evening.

Mr Crane said: "Milo is so playful and mischievous. He loves to chew and has more antlers than a deer, and he has squeaky toys galore.

"We are so grateful to the RSPCA, which is why we are supporting their Join The Christmas Rescue campaign so other pets in need can be saved."
