A man who offered to give a woman a lift home before raping her in a hotel room has been jailed.

Seyi Odeyemi offered to drive the victim from Camden, London, to her home for half the price of a taxi, but instead took her to a hotel near Northfleet, Kent.

The woman appeared semi-conscious before Odeyemi dragged her to a room and raped her, police said.

At Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday, the 23-year-old was sentenced to 10 years and six months' imprisonment.

He will also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 20 years, will have to sign the sex offenders' register indefinitely and will be required to complete an additional five years on licence upon his release.

'Sexual predator'

After the incident on 3 September 2023, the woman awoke confused next to a man she did not recognise, police said.

She reported it to the police, having disclosed her ordeal to a friend, and Odeyemi was arrested on 7 September.

It was established Odeyemi was the subject of a Sexual Risk Order at the time of the incident and had breached its conditions.

Odeyemi, of Willesborough, near Ashford, was charged with rape and breaching the order.

He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted of both counts.

Det Con James Lake said Odeyemi was a "sexual predator" who put the victim through an "appalling ordeal".

"He undoubtedly belongs in jail," Mr Lake said.
