Arrest after man's body found in River Thames

A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after the body of a man was found in the River Thames.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) said the discovery was made near Heyford Hill Lane, Littlemore, on 28 September shortly before 16:50 BST.

The force said officers were trying to establish the movements of the deceased man, in his 40s, before he got in the water, which they believed was near St Clements around 19 September.

A man and a woman who spoke to two men on bikes, near Angel and Greyhound Meadows, are being urged to contact officers.

The arrested man, aged 36 and from Oxford, was also held on suspicion of robbery. he has since been released on bail.

The death of the man, from Oxford, is currently being treated as unexplained.

Det Insp Krista Thompson said: "We are trying to establish his last movements prior to entering the water.

"While these incidents will no doubt cause concern to people in and around Oxford, I'd like to reassure people that we are conducting a full and thorough investigation."

Details of the incident were only released by TVP on Tuesday.
