Armed police stop car after violent city brawl

Armed police stopped a vehicle on a major dual carriageway to arrest four men following a violent city centre brawl.

The A14 at Swavesey, Cambridgeshire, was temporarily closed at about 15:30 GMT during the operation on Monday. The men remain in police custody.

Officers had been called to St Paul's Road, New England, Peterborough, at about 14:30 GMT after a group of men were reported fighting with weapons.

A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital after the fight with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A second man, aged 40 and from Peterborough, was arrested on suspicion of affray, assault causing actual bodily harm and assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was released on bail.

Cambridgeshire Police said that of the four men stopped on the A14, three - aged 22, 32, and 34 and from Peterborough - were arrested on suspicion of affray.

The fourth, aged 51 and from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 17-year-old boy arrested at Peterborough City Hospital on suspicion of making threats to kill has also been released on bail.
