National Highways has said the M69 from Hinckley to towards J21 of the M1 at Whetstone, near Leicester, will close for a number of days

A section of motorway in Leicestershire is to close for essential maintenance work, highways bosses have said.

Drivers have been warned to expect disruption along the M69 as work is carried out on the eastbound carriageway from J1 (Hinckley) to J21 of the M1 (Whetstone).

The works were originally scheduled for Wednesday, 15 January and Thursday, 16 January but will now take place between Friday, 31 January and Monday, 3 February.

National Highways said it would try to make sure access to businesses and residences is maintained wherever possible.

The works along the 17-mile stretch of road, which runs between Coventry and Leicester, include the completion of road lining such as road markings and road studs, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The installation of a high friction surface – a material applied to roads to improve skid resistance and safety – will also take place.

National Highways said it will also be installing one set of loops which will monitor traffic flow.

The authority said fully-signed diversion routes will be available throughout the duration of the works.

The closure will be in place between 20:00 GMT and 06:00 across January 31 to February 3.
