Family ask hit-and-run driver to 'do decent thing'

The family of a man who died in a hit-and-run crash in Birmingham have called for the driver to "do the decent thing" and turn themselves in.

Wynford "Willie" Griffiths died after he was hit by a car on Audley Road, Stechford, on 9 February.

West Midlands Police said the 71-year-old was treated at the scene, but was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

His family paid tribute to a "beautiful brother, uncle and great uncle".

In a statement released by West Midlands Police, the family said: "If you are the person who did this, please do the decent thing and hand yourself in to the police.

"Our world has been turned upside down with what you have done to our family."

Detectives are continuing to investigate the crash, and joined the family in their appeal for information.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes said: "We are also directly appealing to the driver of the car to do the right thing and take responsibility for your actions."
