Animals dug up remains from graveyard , police say

Police sealed off a cemetery after unearthed human remains were found.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers went to Park Road near the Dukinfield graveyard in Tameside on Saturday.

The local Tameside Correspondent website reported that the bones were found by playing children.

GMP said the remains were likely to have been disturbed by wildlife and were "historical".

Officers were still at the scene on Sunday.

A spokesman for the force said: "Our investigations have been concluded and it has been determined that there is no criminality and the remains that were found are from a historical burial site that had been disturbed by wildlife."

Det Insp Christopher Dean, from GMP's Tameside district, said the police, local council and coroner were satisfied "no criminality has taken place".

The BBC has approached Tameside Council for comment.
