Attacks on two women in which one was raped and another was injured are being investigated in Birmingham, with detectives considering if they are linked.

One of the women was raped in Walsall Road, Perry Barr, on Saturday, police said, and the second suffered injuries to her face in an assault in Aldridge Road.

Officers are working to understand if the two incidents were linked, a spokesman for West Midlands Police said.

Parts of Walsall Road were cordoned off after police were called at 01:50 GMT.

The spokesman said: "We understand the concern and worry that this will cause the local community. You will see more officers in the area today and into this evening."

He said officers continued to support the women and inquiries were ongoing.
