Three people seriously hurt in five-vehicle crash

A woman has suffered life-threatening injuries and two others, including an 11-year-old boy, are seriously hurt after a five-vehicle crash on the A14.

Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway near Rowley Mile Services at Newmarket on Friday night.

Cambridgeshire Police said the crash initially involved one car - a grey Nissan Silvia - with subsequent collisions happening moments later.

A 40-year-old woman from Mundford, Norfolk, who was driving a grey Ford EcoSport, is in a critical condition, with a boy passenger also hurt. Police have appealed for witnesses.

The crash happened between junctions 36 and 37 at about 23:40 GMT on Friday, which led to the road being closed for nearly 11 hours.

A grey Volvo and a blue Peugeot were also involved.

The driver of the Volvo, a 45-year-old man from Wymondham, Norfolk, suffered serious injuries. The Nissan and Peugeot drivers were unhurt.

A fifth unidentified vehicle left the scene before officers arrived.

Det Sgt Craig Wheeler, said: "This was a nasty collision which has left three people seriously injured.

"I would like to hear from anyone who was driving on the eastbound or westbound carriageways who may have dashcam footage any of the collisions taking place, or any vehicles which drove through the scene at any stage.

"I would also like to appeal to the occupants of the vehicle that left the scene to get in touch, as you may have vital information which would greatly assist our investigation."
