At Shorwell, Isle of Wight, BBC Weather Watcher Ben snapped the night sky as it flushed a vivid purple.

The pink, purple and green hue of the Northern Lights has appeared in skies across the south.

Clear skies overnight meant the dazzling natural phenomenon, also known as aurora borealis, could be widely seen from Puddletown in Dorset to the Isle of Wight, Windsor in Berkshire and Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire.
