Views sought on plan for new 4,250-home town

People are being asked for their views on a proposal to build a new 4,250-home town near East Midlands Airport.

Developers are drawing up plans for a community called Isley Woodhouse on farmland to the south west of the airport.

An outline planning application for the settlement is yet to be submitted.

Views collected as part of the consultation, which runs until Friday, will be included in papers submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) as part of the formal application.

If approved, the settlement would be built on land between Isley Walton, Diseworth and Tonge.

Part of the A453 would be rerouted around the west of the site, according to the consultation.

The Harworth Group and Caesarea Development Holdings are the masterminds behind the scheme which the papers state would be a "vibrant sustainable and mixed community".

Initial proposals for a scheme sought 4,500 homes but the latest version of the scheme has reduced this to 4,250.

NWLDC said it expected the outline planning application to be submitted in January.

The authority will then consult residents and other organisations as part of the planning process.

A timeline published as part of the consultation suggests a full planning application could be submitted in 2026.

If approved, work could then begin on the site the following year.

NWLDC has earmarked the 781-acre (316-hectare) site for development as part of its local plan.

This plan sets out where the authority can find about 700 new homes a year, up to 2040, to meet predicted population growth.
