Several homes have been evacuated after a house fire broke out on a terraced street in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Sholebroke Place in Potternewton at about 12:35 BST on Saturday.

Nine properties were evacuated due to the risk of the fire spreading further, a fire service spokesperson said.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed everyone in the house involved had been led to safety, but did not disclose whether anyone had been injured.

Nearby residents were asked to keep doors and windows shut, with others asked to avoid the area where possible.

In an update at 20:00 on Saturday, the fire service said one crew was still in attendance.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, police said, with those with information urged to come forward.
