Most parents and carers get first-choice school

More than 95% of parents and carers in Cornwall have received their first-choice placement for their children's secondary school, a council has said.
Cornwall Council said 97% of 5,748 applications for school places for September 2025 got their top choice, higher than the 2024 England average of 82.9%.
It also said that 99.97% secured a place at one of their top three preferred schools.
For anyone families who did not receive their preferred allocation, an independent appeals process was available, the council said.
Barbara Ellenbroek, council cabinet member for children and families said it was "fantastic that so many received the news they wanted".
She said: "This is all down to the hard work of our teams who collaborate closely with schools across Cornwall to ensure as many children as possible can attend their preferred school."
