Gavin and Stacey immortalised in giant wall art

Gavin and Stacey mural covers homeowner's wall

Much-loved characters from the hit BBC comedy Gavin and Stacey have been immortalised in a mural on the wall of a busy walkway.

Anya Clements was looking for a way to tidy up the public-facing side of her home in south Wales after it was covered in graffiti.

She commissioned artist Tee2sugars to spray paint the giant artwork, which took him about 20 hours to complete.

"She wanted something that would put smiles on people's faces more than anything," the artist said.

The mural, which features the show's central characters Gavin and Stacey, as well as Gwen, Bryn, Pam and Mick, Nessa and Smithy, was painted on the outer wall of Anya's garden in Dinas Powys.

The small town in the Vale of Glamorgan is where some of the series - specifically the scenes inside Pam and Mick's home - was filmed.

The mural can now be seen by walkers en route to the nearby train station.

The inspiration came after the show's co-creators Ruth Jones and James Corden, who play Nessa and Smithy, confirmed that they had penned a final episode of the show which is due to air on Christmas Day.

"Originally we were going to paint flowers and some pretty stuff," said Tee2sugars.

"But, due to us finding out that the last episode of Gavin and Stacey was being written, Anya thought it would be a really cool idea to have a little touch upon pop culture."

The last time the TV characters were seen was in a Christmas special in 2019, which ended on a cliff-hanger after Nessa proposed to Smithy.

That episode was the first for nine years.
