An MP says early preparatory work is under way to bring a disused rail line back into use.

The Leek to Stoke train line in north Staffordshire ceased passenger services in 1965.

A feasibility study was carried in 2022 out to investigate options for reopening the line.

Following the cancellation of Phase 2 of HS2, funding was granted to reopen the line.

Posting on Facebook, Staffordshire Moorlands MP Karen Bradley said: “Great to see the clearance work on a section of the Leek to Stoke line at City Road, Fenton.

“Looking forward to seeing more work on more of the line as the Restoring Your Railway project rolls out.”
