A number of suspected firearms have been discovered in County Tyrone, police have said.

It comes after a shooting incident in Coalisland last week.

The man, who is in his 40s, told police he was approached by two men while he was sitting in a vehicle in the town on Wednesday 30 October.

He reported that a suspected firearm was put through the window of his vehicle, and he was shot in the arm some time before 19:00 GMT.

The man was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said the weapons were uncovered by officers investigating the shooting.

"Detectives have been carrying out numerous searches in the area yesterday and today, and located a number suspected firearms. They have been seized and will be sent for further testing," Det Insp Ryan said.

A number of imitation firearms were also discovered.

On Tuesday, a 34-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were arrested in relation to the incident and both remain in police custody.

Police have thanked the community for their patience and have further appealed for information.
