Road closed for three weeks as part of £38m scheme

A key road is to shut for three weeks as part of a £38m project to tackle potholes.
The A6 through Shap in Cumbria will be closed for 21 days from Monday as resurfacing work gets under way.
The scheme will be carried out in two phases, with the section between Green House and Ullsmoor closing first, followed by the stretch between Bampton junction and the north end of the 40mph signs.
Westmorland and Furness Council, which is behind the project, said its road network was "an ageing asset" that needed ongoing investment "to ensure residents are kept safe and moving".
The council is spending £37.7m on road and resurfacing work throughout its area.
The Shap roadworks will include repairs to the drainage system.
Signed diversions will be in place via the M6, with alternative diversions for non-motorway vehicles.
