A new £4.3m fire station has been officially opened in Derbyshire.

The county's chief fire officer Gavin Tomlinson was joined by councillors and other dignitaries for the ceremony at Matlock Fire Station on Tuesday.

The new facility, built at the site of the former fire station in Chesterfield Road, is designed to minimise carbon emissions.

Features include a double bay vehicle garage, accommodation for fire service workers and a new smoke training facility built to replicate a three-bedroom house combined with a commercial stairwell, basement, loft and confined space.

“It is a modern fire station fit for the future."
