Women working in technology in Jersey are paid "fractionally more" but represent only 21% of the sector's workforce, a report has found.

Prosperity 24/7, a Jersey technology and business consulting practice, released its first gender pay gap report for the technology sector.

Pay gap reporting is not a legal requirement in Jersey and in the UK it only applies to organisations with more than 250 employees.

The highest paid employees within the technology sector were men by 80% compared to 20% being women, and the lowest paid were men by 93% and 7% female employees.

The proportion of female employees receiving a bonus was 75% compared to 70% for male employees.

The company said it was proud of its "significant presence" of female employees in a senior position.

'Ensure transparency and progress'

Geraldine Evans, Prosperity 24/7's chief operating officer, said it wanted to create a "transparent and inclusive culture" for all.

She said: "We believe that reporting on the gender pay gap is an essential tool to ensure transparency and drive progress.

"The experimental earnings and gender pay gap report produced by Statistics Jersey in June 2023 highlighted that the gender pay gap was highest in the information and communications sector at 28% and we wanted to see how we compare."

The report from Statistics Jersey found the gender pay gap remained at 14% - the same as in June 2022.

Marisa Hamon, Prosperity 247's HR Director, said the sector was committed to equal representation.

She said: "It is understandable that there is a gap in a traditionally male dominated sector such as IT.

"Attracting female talent to the IT consultancy industry remains a considerable challenge with cultural bias often associating men with technical roles which discourages women from pursuing IT careers."
