Two people have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder after a man was seriously injured.

Essex Police said the incident happened in Howard Close, Waltham Abbey, at about 15:30 GMT on Sunday.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He remained there on Tuesday.

A 54-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were released on bail until 18 February after being questioned, police said.

Det Insp Chris Rose said officers were working "around the clock" to establish how the man came to be injured.

"If you know anything about this incident and you haven't spoken to us, I encourage you to come forward and help," he added.
