'Cold-blooded' attack started over phone charger

Two men who carried out a "cold-blooded" assault on a vulnerable man over a phone charger have been jailed.

Jordan Coxhead, 24, of Grove Street, Cheltenham, took a leading role in the attack and repeatedly assaulted the victim, a man in his 40s, over several hours in July, Gloucester Crown Court was told.

He pleaded guilty to section 18 wounding with intent and was sentenced to five years and three months in prison.

Andrew Brazington, aged 54, from Cheltenham, was also involved in the assault and admitted a lesser role of punching the victim once. He was given a two-year sentence on Tuesday.

The court was told that the victim was known to the two men and that Coxhead filmed parts of the attack and sent it to others while boasting in a group chat.

Coxhead believed the victim had a phone charger that he wanted, and when the victim said he did not it have it, Coxhead did not believe him.

The two men went to the victim's address on 25 July and threatened to stab him if he did not come out of his room. When the man left he was subjected to a prolonged attack in the garden.

Judge Rupert Lowe said: "You carried out a cold-blooded, pre-meditated and prolonged assault on a completely innocent man.

"He was completely helpless against this onslaught of violence."

The victim was found to have suffered facial injuries, blurred vision, bruising and a bleed on his brain.

He requires ongoing medical attention.

In a statement, the victim said the attack had been "degrading and humiliating".

"I honestly thought I was going to die," he said.

"The attack happened at my home, where I thought I was safe, and due to this, I remain continuously anxious and on edge.

"When I do manage to fall asleep, the flashbacks wake me up."

Coxhead also admitted threatening a person with a bladed article, and was sentenced to six months to run concurrently.

Both men were given 15-year restraining orders to protect the victim.
