Nurse who raised £60k for charities wins award
A nurse who has raised more than £60,000 for hospitals has won an award for her work.
Claire Flatt, a matron at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, has won a Cavell Star Award.
Her colleagues described her as an inspiration who encouraged staff to think about how they could be "kinder and more conscientious team members."
Ms Flatt said it was a "real honour and a very humbling experience".
"I feel immensely proud to be recognised for my work and leadership, both of which I am so passionate about.
“For me, nursing is about more than individual contributions. It’s about uplifting each other, creating positive change, and making a difference for our patients and staff.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back, and this recognition reinforces my commitment to continuing this journey.”
Last year she raised £1,000 after cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia for the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust's Well Wishers charity.
Her nomination said: “Claire is very busy within her role, yet always finds the time to be a listening ear and professional friend."
The Cavell Star Awards recognise nurses and midwives who "shine bright and show exceptional care to one of three groups of people; patients, patient’s families or their colleagues".
