Victoria Street trial suspended after feedback

The States of Alderney has suspended a trial pedestrianisation of Victoria Street, in response to feedback from islanders.

It started its trial on Saturday to make Victoria Street pedestrian only between 09:00-13:00 GMT.

It planned to trial it for the next three Saturdays as well, but has paused it while it offers all islanders a chance to comment.

The Alderney States said it received "constructive criticism and a significant amount of positive feedback" from shoppers.

It said: "During the trial on Saturday 14 December, there was discussion amongst the community, feedback made to States members who were present, and thoughts relayed to the Alderney Police."

The States said: "Although the Alderney Police have been engaging with shopkeepers on the proposed trial, it is clear that communications and engagement from the General Services Committee was not sufficient.

"[It] could have been undertaken with shopkeepers, the Post Office, those who have accessibility challenges, and the island's delivery providers on a more frequent basis."

Feedback should be sent to [email protected] before 3 January with the subject marked as Victoria Street Pedestrianisation Trial Feedback, the States said.
