As the Manchester Marathon takes over the city, preparations are already under way for next year's event.

Organisers have confirmed next year's race in the city is due to take place on 19 April 2026.

They said the event had seen a "remarkable surge" in popularity in recent years, with both the 2024 and 2025 events reaching capacity in record time.

Entries will open to those who have signed up to the marathon's priority list on Monday before public entries open on Tuesday.

How do I sign up for Manchester Marathon 2026?

More than 35,000 runners are expected to take part in the Manchester Marathon.

Organisers said places for 2026 would be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

"The overwhelming feedback from participants is that they would prefer to avoid a ballot system and instead secure their place through a guaranteed entry process," organisers said.

"Early sign ups play a crucial role in the planning and organisation of the event, so we'll continue to offer a tiered pricing structure, with the best value available to those who register earliest."

Organisers said no decisions had been made on whether more places would be released later in the year.

What if I'm hoping to do the London Marathon?

For the first time, the Manchester and London marathon takes place on the same day in 2025.

Next year the London Marathon takes place on 26 April 2026, which is still quite close to each other.

With that in mind, organisers have said those who enter the Manchester race during the 2026 launch entry window (27 April 2025 – 6 May) would have the opportunity to receive a refund of their Manchester entry cost, minus the booking fee, if they were accepted into the London Marathon public ballot.

In order to receive this refund you would need to provide the necessary proof, a screenshot or email, that you have been accepted into the London Marathon Public Ballot by 23:59 on 1 September.

Organisers will also accept a screenshot or email file that shows a payment or booking confirmation from London Marathon Events.
