Council approves £366k Splashpad investment

The popular Splashpad in Worcester’s Gheluvelt Park will be renovated, after city councillors approved a £366,000 investment.

The water play feature opened 14 years ago and suffers from persistent maintenance problems – it was out of action for more than two weeks this summer.

The money will be used to replace the original filtration system and upgrade the safety surface.

Council leader and chair of the policy and resources committee Lynn Denham said visitors would not see any outward change to the Splashpad.

“Having a free water play facility for children to enjoy throughout the summer months is vitally important for Worcester,” said Denham.

“The cross-party support for the Splashpad repairs proves its popularity and the need to spend this money to keep it open for families to enjoy for many years to come.”

Work is due to begin in February before the Splashpad reopens for the summer in May.
