Drink driver disqualified after blocked walkway
A man has been disqualified for drink driving after a car blocked a pedestrian walkway on Botley Road in Oxford.
Aaron Brickley, 24, of Ticknell Piece Road, Charlbury, was charged with one count of driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit.
He pleaded guilty at Oxford Magistrates Court today and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 20 months.
Brickley also has to pay a fine of £520.
The Botley Road had been closed to vehicles at the railway bridge near Frideswide Square since April 2023 as part of a £161m project being undertaken by Network Rail to expand Oxford train station.
The pedestrian underpass was blocked by Brickley's car for eight hours after police were called at 3:30 BST on July 7.
Network Rail announced the road will not reopen in October as expected. A new date has not yet been confirmed.
