Work to prevent landslips set to go ahead in 2025
Construction work to prevent landslips and reduce ensuing traffic delays on a key route is expected to start in early 2025.
A section of the B4058, at Rushmire Hill near Wotton-under-Edge, has been subject to repeat disruption due to unstable ground below it.
Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) plans to carry out a large-scale repair to ensure the long-term stability of the road.
The council estimates the scheme will cost £2.5m, with work expected to be completed by autumn next year.
The B4058 connects Wotton-under-Edge with areas to the north and west, such as Nailsworth, Stroud and Tetbury.
The site has been closely monitored and investigated since 2016, with different phases of resurfacing being carried out to maintain road access.
Councillor Dom Morris, GCC cabinet member for highways and flooding, said: “We’re investing in our roads to prevent traffic delays and deliver smoother journeys.
"We look forward to appointing an expert contractor to carry out the challenging work to stabilise the road.
“Along with an extensive programme of resurfacing and with new pothole repair machines working across the county, it’s our priority to create better journeys for everyone in Gloucestershire.”
