Major A52 road project expected to take 12 months

Roadworks on a major route in Nottingham are expected to take 12 months and will begin in March, it has been confirmed.

National Highways has announced plans to build a cycleway and pedestrian footpath, and make road improvements to the A52 Derby Road, between the Priory and Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) roundabouts.

The highways project team has invited residents to three events, in which people can find out more about the project.

A spokesperson said "by doing all the work together, we will reduce long-term disruption to road users".

The new footpath, National Highways said, will provide access to nearby sites like Wollaton Park and the University of Nottingham.

Meanwhile, a "new low-noise carriageway surface" is being constructed, with upgraded street lighting, drainage systems and pedestrian lighting-controlled crossings.

National Highways said there would be eight phases of traffic management throughout, the most significant being a 24-hour one-way system between the two roundabouts.

For the first four months the westbound carriageway will be closed, followed by the eastbound carriageway for a further four months.

The work will initially take place alongside ongoing bridge repairs, which are due to end this summer, at the QMC Roundabout.

National Highways project manager Sue Chambers said: "This scheme is designed to provide a new modern road that will improve the experience of the road users, cyclists and walkers who use it.

"The work will take around 12 months to complete but by doing all the work together, we will reduce long-term disruption to road users, stakeholders and local residents."
