Young people in Guernsey are being offered a free six-week course about artificial intelligence (AI) by the island's tech incubator.

Digital Greenhouse, in St Peter Port, has launched its AI Explorer Course aimed at students and graduates over the age of 16.

The one-hour sessions about the "opportunities and challenges" of AI is being taught by experts from University College London (UCL) over video call on Thursday afternoons, course leaders said.

Jenny de la Mare, from Digital Greenhouse, said it was hoped the content would "inform and inspire" young people.

'Stand out'

Ms de la Mare said the self-paced course was not just for STEM [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] students or people who had studied AI before, and the programme was suitable as a learning start point.

Students in Guernsey may not be able to travel to the UK for events so these opportunities for young people were particularly important, she added.

Ms de la Mare said she hoped it would help young people in Guernsey to "stand out" in applications for work or university by offering "relevant and unique skills".

The course started this week but was still accepting registrations, Ms de la Mare said, and anyone interested in joining should contact Digital Greenhouse.
