A woman has been charged with the murder of a man in a village in Somerset, police have said.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Baltonsborough at 16:31 BST on Thursday, to reports a man had been injured in a serious assault.

Officers said Christine Kekkonen, 36, of Dunford Terrace, Baltonsborough, has been charged with murder in connection with the incident.

The man has not been formally identified but his next of kin have been informed by police.

A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts remain with them at this tragic time and specialist family liaison officers will continue to support and update them."

They added a post-mortem examination concluded the man "died of a stab wound".

Ms Kekkonnen appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody until her next appearance at Bristol Crown Court on 14 May.
