Railway station and roads closed by flooding

Several roads in Northamptonshire have been closed and no services are stopping at Northampton railway station due to flooding from Storm Bert.

The Environment Agency has issued a severe flood warning for the River Nene at Billing Aquadrome and nearby business parks.

The warning has been issued due to deep and fast flowing water and a rapid onset of flooding, and there could be danger to life.

Northamptonshire Police has also put road closures in place due to "significant rainfall during Storm Bert". Drivers have been urged to only travel when necessary and avoid floodwater.

The road closures are on the following roads.

• St Andrew’s Road and surrounding areas, Northampton

• St James’ Park Road, along Victoria Park, Northampton

• Areas of Dallington close to Dallington Brook, Geddington, Kettering

• London Road/Bridge Street in Far Cotton

• Bedford Road, Northampton

Roads around Northampton station have been blocked and there is no access to the station.

A spokesperson from London Northwestern Railway said on X: "Due to flooding at Northampton, services on the Birmingham - Northampton - Euston and Crewe - Rugby - Euston route are disrupted."

Limited services are operating between Milton Keynes, London Euston and between Coventry and Birmingham.

"No services are running from Northampton. Rail replacement services are unable to serve Northampton," added the spokesperson.

Photos from the station showed the tracks covered by water.

North Northamptonshire Council said it was aware of a number of properties in the Corby area that could be affected by the weather conditions.

A spokesperson for the council said it had set up an emergency assistance centre at the Corby Cube to help those who may be affected by flooding.
