Residents in a riverside area of Hull have welcomed an "impressive" new fountain.

The water feature, which was funded with £25,000 from Hull City Council ward councillors and the leader's fund, has been placed in Victoria Dock's half tide basin.

It not only sprays up to 40ft (12m) of water into the air, but also improves the quality for local wildlife and residents, the council said.

Councillor Diana Hatcher, who represents the Drypool Ward, said she was delighted to see the fountain up and running after a long campaign.

She added: "Already residents have been delighted to see the new fountain working well."

The council said water quality in the area had been a concern for residents for many years.

A spokesperson added: "We hope that residents enjoy the impressive display."
