Five men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was found in a street with slash wounds.

The seriously injured man was found with "a number of laceration and puncture wound injuries" on New Hall Lane in Preston, just after midnight, Lancashire Police said.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Five men aged 21, 24, 26, 45 and 52 were later arrested and a woman aged 46 was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police said an investigation was continuing.

Det Insp Steve Monk said: "I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Arnhem Road or Wilbraham Street areas off New Hall Lane, or who has any information, to get in touch."
