Singer Paloma Faith to give annual arts lecture

Award-winning singer Paloma Faith's "boldness, authenticity, and commitment to creative expression" make her the "perfect" guest speaker for the Isle of Man Arts Council's annual lecture, its chairman said.

Faith has had six UK top 10 albums, been a mentor on The Voice UK, and has also been seen on TV screens as Bet Sykes in Batman spin-off Pennyworth.

Also an author and podcaster, she will be giving a talk about her life and career at the Gaiety Theatre, in Douglas, on 15 September.

Sarah Maltby MHK said the multitalented performer was the right speaker for "an event that celebrates the power of the arts to challenge, connect, and inspire".

The performer is most well known for her hits such as Only Love Can Hurt Like This and New York.

As well as her singing and acting credentials, Faith last year released MILF, a memoir focusing on motherhood and womanhood, and she has recently been confirmed in the line-up for the celebrity version of hit TV show The Traitors.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025, the Arts Council aims to encourage residents to enjoy the arts and promotes the island's cultural and artistic identity.

Previous guests for the lecture include documentary maker Louis Theroux, designer Kevin McCloud, and Dame Joanna Lumley.

The annual initiative is part of the National Strategy for Culture and the Arts.

Maltby said Faith the council was "extremely excited to continue connecting Manx audiences with leading lights in the creative fields".
