Devon railway line reopens after landslip

A railway line in Devon has reopened after a landslip on Tuesday.

The incident happened between Axminster and Honiton at about 14:45 BST and impacted South Western Railways (SWR) trains.

Network Rail Wessex confirmed engineers removed the fallen mud and installed a temporary wall made of 1 tonne ballast bags to protect the railway.

It posted on X: "We can reopen the line at a reduced speed of 50mph to get passengers moving again."

It continued: "Rest assured, we will be returning to the site to undertake further, more permanent works to restore full speed running to the line.

"Once again, we're really sorry for the disruption."
