The Reverend Lisa Coupland: "It's lovely people enjoy the show"

Warning: This article contains spoilers for series three of The Traitors

Cornwall priest the Reverend Lisa Coupland has found herself in the spotlight after her appearance on the BBC series The Traitors.

The show, where contestants work to identify a group of imposters, or "traitors", within their ranks, has brought unexpected fame to the local priest, leading to some amusing encounters.

Mrs Coupland, 62, from Truro, told BBC Radio Cornwall: "I tend to get recognised quite often in public toilets.

"As a priest, it's not really the vibe I'm going for."

'Lovely' fans

Mrs Coupland, who was in the third series of the BBC One programme, said: "I normally walk past someone in a motorway service station, and they go: 'That's Lisa from The Traitors,' and then they stop me as I'm coming out. It's quite amusing."

The recognition has been a positive experience for Mrs Coupland, who said she enjoyed interacting with fans of the show.

"It's lovely that so many people have been enjoying the show, and they want to stop and talk to you about it," she said.

"You get to speak to so many wonderful and lovely people."

Congregation 'very excited'

Her congregation in Cornwall was equally supportive, she said.

"They come up to me and say: 'Oh, I saw you on the television.'

"They're very excited and want to know about it. The love and support out there for the show and for all the cast has been great."

Mrs Coupland's family was aware of her participation in the show, but she had to keep it a secret from others.

She said: "I just said that I was going to Scotland on a sort of retreat and left it at that. They just thought: 'Oh, she's gone off to do something quiet and get away from it all.'"

She praised the winners, Jake Brown and Leanne Quigley.

"They played the game so well. Jake was our prime traitor hunter right from the get-go.

"Leanne was a machine in all the missions. She deserves all the success she got."

The Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
