Hundreds of people attended a service in Lincoln to pay their respects to those who died in the two world wars.

Dignitaries, veterans and members of the public gathered at the war memorial at St Benedict’s Square for Armistice Day, which is held each year to mark the end of World War One.

The Mayor of Lincoln councillor Alan Briggs placed a wreath on behalf of the council.

The service was organised by the Royal British Legion and a bugle player performed the Last Post before a two-minute silence was observed.

The Last Post has been a regular call at military camps since the 1790s, but is now most widely known as a mark of remembrance

Jessica Sunley, from the regimental band of Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force, performed the Last Post, while Reverend Steve Holt, of Boultham Parish, provided the words for the service.
