Firefighters extinguish moorland blaze

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze that broke out on moorland in Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) sent three fire engines to an area of moorland at Holcombe Hill in Bury at about midday.

Fire engines from Bolton Central, Bury and Ramsbottom have been at the scene, along with two wildfire support units from Littleborough and Horwich, a GMFRS spokesperson said.

They said the fire had now been extinguished but "the incident remains ongoing as crews remain on site to continue damping down".

Firefighters were called out to the blaze at about 12:00 BST

The spokesperson said firefighters used one hose reel and beaters to tackle the blaze.

Residents had earlier been warned to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed.
