A police officer was thrown out of a boxing match and sexually touched a woman he knew, a misconduct hearing has found.

Dorset PC Remi Damiani was off duty when he attended the event where he was ejected for being drunk, the force said.

A misconduct hearing was told he shouted obscenities at door staff and colleagues and tried to use his status as a police officer to regain readmission.

Following the hearing, Dorset Police said Damiani was guilty of gross misconduct and had been dismissed.

The hearing at Dorset Police Headquarters in Winfrith concluded on Thursday.

The panel found that Damiani's behaviour towards the woman was disrespectful, inappropriate, unwanted, and likely to bring discredit upon the police service.

However, it said his behaviour was not predatory or driven by misogyny, stating it was out of character due to his intoxicated state.

Damiani, who worked in Poole as a response officer, was dismissed without notice and will be barred from working in policing.

Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell said: "I was saddened and disappointed to hear about the actions of Police Constable Remi Damiani and the outcome of the panel reflects the seriousness of this.

"Our officers are duty bound to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity at all times, including when off duty, and the public should quite rightly have confidence that when these standards fall below these expectations, swift and robust action will be taken."
